What "no download" means here
- Nothing to install. Open the page and the table is dealt. It works on a phone, a tablet and a desktop.
- No account to play on your own against the computer. An account is only needed to sit at a table with other people, because a shared table has to know who you are.
- No adverts, and no analytics. There is no third-party script on the page — that is a stated promise, not a current state of affairs. See the privacy policy.
- It keeps working offline. Once loaded, the single-player game runs with the network off — on a plane, on a train, on a bad connection.
- You can install it if you want to, from the browser's own "add to home screen". That is still not a download from a store; it is a bookmark with an icon.
Why it loads as fast as it does
Nothing the game draws is a file. Every tile, every character on it and every piece of the table is drawn from code at the moment it appears, and every sound is synthesised rather than played back. There are no image assets and no audio assets to wait for — which matters most exactly where connections are worst.
